Lifestyle Of Change Rwanda Water Campaign | A charity: water Project

It’s time to ACTIVATE and SUPPORT the global shortage of clean WATER in developing nations.  Joining the charity: water’s September 2012 Campaign, The Lifestyle Of Change Rwanda Water Campaign will be building further awareness and supporting sustainable water resources in the country of Rwanda.

Have you ever said, “I’m dying of thirst?” and really meant it?

If you’re like us, you don’t spend too much time thinking about water — it’s everywhere we go.  When we’re thirsty, we flip a handle or push a button.  When we’re dirty, we twist a shower knob.  When our garden needs watering, when our pasta needs to be boiled, when we use the bathroom — water is just there for the taking.

But for almost 800 million people on the planet, it’s not. Millions of women and children have to walk hours each day to get water from muddy ponds and rivers.  And much of that water is infested with bacteria, parasites or leeches.

When the Lifestyle Of Change team learned that an average of $20 can give someone access to clean, safe water, we decided to start a campaign to help.  Our goal is to raise $1,000.  charity: water will use 100% of the money to directly fund the water projects in the field.  Even better, when the projects are complete, they’ll show us just where our money went. That’s right — we’ll be able to see the GPS coordinates, photos and other details about the community we’ve impacted!

Most of us probably haven’t been dying of thirst.  I’m sure we’d all like to see a world where no one does.

Together, we can make a difference in the global water crisis. I hope you’ll consider helping on our Rwanda Water Campaign.

The White Roof Project | Paint = Environmental Change

White is the new COOL color.  The White Roof Project is making it cool by using white paint to help make systematic and environmental change happen one roof at a time.

The White Roof Project paints the roofs of buildings using a reflective paint to help combat global energy issues.  The white paint reflects up to 85% of sunlight and helps people save money on electric bills, reduce smog, and relive stress on power grids.  They also partner with various nonprofits, community groups, and housing associations on a block-by-block mission in an effort to coat 5 percent of all roofs each year.

The originators of this project have done their research and by painting “5 percent of rooftops per year worldwide, we would be finished by 2030. This would save us 24 billion metric tons in CO2.”  This level of salvage of CO2 would be equivalent to all emitted in 2010, thus similar to “turning the world off for an entire year.”

Check out their Paint the Town White event held in New York City on October 19th.  Open bar from 7:00-10:00 (BAM) if you fancy.  Find out more about this event and all the initiatives the White Roof Project is apart of to help reduce CO2 emissions at www.whiteroofproject.org.

Conserve fossil fuel based resources.  Reduce your carbon footprint.  Help to save the ecosystem that we all play in.

Buy Positively | Consumerism sucks. Let's make it better.

Microphone for smarter consumption, Buy Positively, is finding ways to alleviate a culture of bad consumerism.  American consumers as a whole are interested in buying products that are good for us, but as other motivators like low cost and larger quantities play a role in our decision making, smarter consumption finds itself on the bench.

Co-Founder of Buy PositivelyMuffadal Saylawala, is passionate about answering important societal questions through the act of business.  He’s passionate about leaving the world better than he found it, and wants to spend his career helping to solve societal challenges.

Buy Positively is the first step at doing this.  Their solution is to offer a collaborative platform for good brands & consumers to fund extraordinary projects (i.e. agricultural & food education opportunities).  Brands and consumers alike will have the opportunity to work together on understanding needs in their communities, and rank those projects based on the amount of activity for that project.  The product is on its way to the market and will share with everyone once it becomes available.

Buy Positively is also blogging about all things “smarter consumption”, and we’d like to share a few of their team’s favorites.
